Take a line from a song that you love or connect with. Turn that line into the title of your post.
She Keeps Me Warm by Mary Lambert is a great song. It’s my kind of lesbian anthem, sweet and cheery. The song is all about comfort and love. I fell in love with the first time I heard it.
If I had written (wrote?) this post back when I first heard this song, the title of this post would have been “I can’t change, even if I tried, even if I wanted to.”
Last winter, Mercy was keeping the apartment so hot that I had to where shorts and a tank top whenever I was home. One day this song came on and all I could think of was Mercy…She keeps me warm!

It’s the end of Spring Break and I haven’t been out of the house much. I’m bad about being active during breaks from school.
“Let’s get out of the apartment. We need ice and I need to stop at he convenience store” Mercy prods me.
Ok, I’ll be ready in a minute. What’s it like outside? Is it raining?
“Not raining right now, the sun’s even out.”
I look in the mirror. Wow! I showered last night, but my hair is spiked on one side. A quick rub with a damp washcloth and some leave in conditioner and I look normal again.
Ready! Let’s go.
I grab my jacket before heading to the door. We walk out the door. As I get two steps from the sidewalk, I see big rain drops slowly coming down.
“Shut up! It wasn’t raining a minute ago!”
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
I didn’t say a word, just put on my jacket and stepped into the rain.
Daily Prompt: Born to Be With You
Got a soul-mate and/or a best friend? What is it about that person that you love best? Describe them in great detail — leave no important quality out.
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!
Mercy is my partner of 16 years. She’s 5’10” , has short brown hair with blonde highlights, beautiful brown eyes, a cute little crooked nose, long elegant hands and feet, big-boned, flawless skin with a slight natural tan, and long legs. She doesnt find herself beautiful, but I get lost in her face. I have a thing for vampires and after her long stay in the hospital last year she now has semi-permanent vampire bite marks on her neck where her central line was. (I know I’m weird.)
Mercy is my number one, not just because she’s my partner.
Most people don’t get her and write her off before ever getting to know her.
She’s had a very hard life. She survived her childhood with an undiagnosed sociopath for a mother. Yes, I know what it means and do not use the word lightly. Due to heredity and ‘nurture’, Mercy suffers from PTSD, severe anxiety, and bi-polar disorder.
This year she almost died due to a bowel impaction that poisoned her body and caused multi-organ failure complicated by pneumonia, appendicitis, and a bad gall bladder. She was in the ICU for almost 2 months and was intubated and on a ventilator for a month. Mercy had to relearn how to eat, talk, walk, etc. She has had to have a temporary colostomy this year, but will be getting reattached at the beginning of the year. Like I’ve said in earlier posts, it’s been a rough year.
Enough about the sad history. This post is about why Mercy is my number one. Continue reading
